The DAISY Award is a program designed to honor and celebrate the exceptional clinical skills and compassionate care provided by nurses. Choctaw Nation Health Services Authority (CNHSA) takes pride in being a DAISY Award Partner, recognizing the outstanding role models within our nursing community.
About the DAISY Foundation
The DAISY Foundation was founded in 1999 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, who passed away at the age of 33 due to complications from the autoimmune disease Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura (ITP). (DAISY stands for diseases that impact the immune system.) During Pat’s eight-week hospitalization, his family was profoundly moved by the care and compassion shown by his nurses, not only towards Pat but also towards his entire family. One of their key goals in establishing this Foundation in Pat’s memory was to honor extraordinary nurses everywhere who make a significant impact on the lives of countless individuals through their remarkable work. Nominate an Extraordinary Nurse at CNHSA
Each DAISY Award Honoree will be celebrated at a public ceremony in their unit and will receive a beautiful certificate, a DAISY Award pin, and a hand-carved stone sculpture titled “A Healer’s Touch.” Additionally, everyone in the unit will join in a celebration featuring cinnamon rolls—Pat’s favorite during his illness. The Barnes Family encourages everyone to take a moment to appreciate the special work of nurses whenever they catch a whiff of that delightful cinnamon scent.
