Children Matter – Car Seats (Injury Prevention Program)
Focusing special attention on activities to prevent or reduce the occurrence of injuries to Native Americans within the Choctaw Nation service area.
Eligibility
- Must reside within Choctaw Nation service area
- CDIB, Letter of Descendancy, or tribal membership card from a federally recognized tribe.
- Child must have a CDIB/Tribal Membership card and be between the ages of 0-8.
- Must provide official documentation of guardianship or proof of placement from DHS, District Court/Tribal Court if court custody of a child (temporary or permanent).
- Verification of pregnancy appointment with expected due date if 31 weeks pregnant (Letter from physician, ultrasound, or documentation showing an Estimated Due date and or gestational age).

Additional Information
Providing education for properly installing a car seat and car seats for children who are members of a federally recognized tribe. Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians offers car seat checks, to insure children are safely seated in a vehicle. This program is first-come, first-served. If your application is accepted into the program, a certified technician will come to install the car seat in your vehicle.
The goal is to focus special attention on activities to prevent or reduce the occurrence of injuries for Native Americans residing in the Choctaw Nation service area. Injuries are the leading cause of death for Native Americans between the ages of 1 and 44 and the third leading cause of death overall. Injuries with the highest incidence among Native Americans are motor vehicle accidents. We offer awareness through education, community outreach, research, and staff training.
