PITTSBURG, Okla. – The Choctaw Hunting Lodge in Pittsburg, Okla. is the ideal backdrop for a relaxing summer in the outdoors.

A family reunion, a wedding, a boys trip – Choctaw Hunting Lodge is an attraction to all. With 22,000 acres for hiking and nature walks and multiple bodies of water for fishing, the lodge has everything you need for a fun Oklahoma summer.

One group that recently got to experience the grandeur of the lodge is Fallen Outdoors, a non-profit organization that takes veterans on outdoors trips at no cost. The group, which consisted of 11 veterans on day one and 11 on day two, spent two nights at the lodge on a fishing trip.

Fallen Outdoors is in over 40 states, and the Oklahoma chapter is led by Tyler Haley of Slaughterville, Okla. Haley served in the Army for 14 years and joined the non-profit in 2017 before becoming the lead for Oklahoma in 2020. Part of Haley’s job is scheduling trips for veterans, and he’s already planning another trip to Choctaw Hunting Lodge thanks to a successful weekend in Pittsburg.

“It’s beautiful out here,” Haley said of Choctaw Hunting Lodge. “We reached out to the lodge about planning a hunt this fall, and then the idea for a fishing trip came up, and we were excited to get to come sooner. They’ve gone out of their way to make this trip possible.”

The veterans caught a number of fish over two days, utilizing the lodge’s 8-acre lake that’s stocked with bass and crappie.

While the lodge’s peak season is during hunting season, there are plenty of opportunities to take advantage of it during the summer. The lodge is 12,000 square feet with seven bedrooms that sleeps 15, and a number of amenities, including a home theatre and bar. Guests can relax by a fire pit while watching a game of horseshoes just outside of the lodge doors or head down the sidewalk and watch the sun set from the large gazebo overlooking the lake.

“We really enjoy hosting people and giving them a special experience at Choctaw Hunting Lodge. We have a lot of visitors from out-of-state who are amazed by how beautiful and peaceful it is here,” Nacohl Vickory, the hunting lodge office manager said. “It’s a special place, and during the summertime we have a lot more opportunities for groups to use the space for different events.”

Whether you’re looking for a peaceful getaway or a stay full of activities, the Choctaw Hunting Lodge fits the bill. To rent the lodge or plan a hunt, visit the website or call 405-664-5769.
