Chief Batton’s Easter Celebration 2024
Published April 5, 2024Hundreds of visitors from young to old attended Chief Batton’s Easter Celebration on March 9 in Tvshka Homma.
The capitol grounds hosted a day filled with fun, fellowship and candy for everyone to enjoy.
This year looked slightly different due to the weather in the days leading up to the event. The helicopter egg drop was canceled, and the egg hunt areas were moved to avoid the mud. That didn’t stop everyone from scrambling for the easter eggs.
If you were lucky enough to find a prize egg, a drawing was held after the egg hunt for door prizes. Everyone had a basket of treats with around 11,000 candy and prize-ticket-filled eggs scattered across the egg hunt areas.
The kids weren’t the only ones who got to hunt eggs. Seniors had their own egg hunt area and enjoyed gathering as many eggs as possible.
The youth stickball tournament was held throughout the day, with kids from across the Reservation showing off their skills on the field.
The Easter event began with speeches from Chief Batton, Assistant Chief Jack Austin, Jr. and Chaplin Olin Williams, who preached an easter devotional. Following the speeches, gospel music was performed by the McNeills. Grab-and-go lunch was provided while the band played.
Choctaw Nation vendors set up inside the arts and crafts building, and visitors lined up to learn about programs and services. They also were able to take photos with an Easter backdrop.
