The Department of Community Protection is a versatile team of Emergency Management, Criminal Justice, and Fire Marshal departments.
Emergency Management
The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma Emergency Management Program strives to protect the public through preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation activities. When a natural disaster strikes, the Emergency Management team is one of the first on the scene, providing instrumental services including incident management, response resources, and individual assistance. In addition to on-the-scene response, the department focuses on increasing the Choctaw Nation’s preparedness and capacity to recover from disasters.
Criminal Justice
The Choctaw Nation Criminal Justice Department comprises Probation, Corrections, and Court Security.
The Probation Department monitors and supervises tribal offenders’ compliance with court orders. They ensure individuals have the tools to succeed in serving court sentences, allowing them to rehabilitate back into society successfully.
The Corrections Department manages incarcerated tribal offenders. They ensure that individuals receive the necessary care and provide classes to begin rehabilitating to society.
Court Security is responsible for securing Choctaw Nation’s judicial buildings and courtrooms. Court bailiffs manage the safety of all participants in the courtroom by maintaining order during trials and ensuring everyone in the courtroom follows the appropriate procedures.
Fire Marshal
The Fire Marshal’s office conducts fire investigations on the Choctaw Nation Reservation to determine their cause and origin and preserves evidence for criminal cases. In addition to fire investigations, they ensure fire code compliance and conduct fire and life safety inspections on Choctaw Nation-owned buildings and properties.
