Smith NWOSU freshman athlete of the year
NWOSU Athletics announced their 2021 Northwespy awards. Emily Smith, a 2020 graduate of Holdenville High School, was named the Female Freshman Athlete of the Year at Northwestern Oklahoma State University. Smith was the top cross-country runner for the Rangers at each meet this year. In track and field, she set school records in the 100m-hurdles and the 400m-hurdles and the 400 x 4 relay. Smith also received honors as the Great American Conference Female Track Athlete of the Week in April after the meet in Wichita, KS.
Smith is also a scholar in the classroom, and she maintains a 4.0 GPA. She is majoring in music education at NWOSU. Emily is an enrolled member of the Choctaw Tribe of Oklahoma.
