Domestic Violence Awareness Month

It’s October and there are a number of awareness issues this month, such as Head Start, Women’s Small Business, and Cybersecurity. However, I’d like to focus on Domestic Violence Awareness.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month was launched nationwide in October 1987 as a way to connect and unite individuals and organizations working on domestic violence issues.

For the past 35 years, much progress has been made to support domestic violence victims and survivors, to hold abusers accountable, and to create and update legislation to further those goals.

The Choctaw Nation’s Children and Family Services provides quality, specialized services and resources that promote family strengths, stability and enhance the safety of victims of domestic violence, family violence or dating violence and their dependents.
