Indian Child Welfare – Tribal Custody

Collaborates with tribal services and the Choctaw Nation District Court to ensure the safety of children, provide services to families affected by abuse and neglect and provide stable, nurturing homes for Choctaw children.

Eligibility

  • Must be a Choctaw member or eligible for membership; or must be a member or eligible for enrollment in a federally recognized Native American tribe
  • Must reside within the jurisdictional boundaries of the Choctaw Nation
  • Child(ren) must be removed or at risk of removal from their parent, parents or legal guardians.

This program works on behalf of Choctaw children and families in accordance with federal and tribal laws, including the Indian Child Welfare Act of 1978 (ICWA) and Choctaw Nation Children’s Code. Our social workers provide child protection and permanency planning services.
