Additional Information

The Princess and Royalty Program has been molding and shaping strong Chahta ohoyo for decades. Annually, the Choctaw Nation crowns local princesses in each of its 12 districts. Qualifying contestants are judged on talent, poise and traditional wear. During district pageants, one representative is chosen in each division. The district princesses advance to compete in the Choctaw Nation Royalty Pageant held during the annual Labor Day Festival at Tvshka Homma. Three young women are crowned Little Miss, Junior Miss, and Miss Choctaw Nation and serve as ambassadors for the following year.

Pageant Guidelines

  • District affiliation is based on actual district of residency. College students’ “permanent address” on school records is used to indicate district residency in circumstances where students may live on a campus in a different district a portion of the year while attending school.
  • The winner of each district division will represent her district throughout the year. During her reign, each District Princess will make personal appearances at various functions throughout the district in accordance with the Choctaw Nation District Councilperson’s approval.
  • Each district winner is required (except for emergency situations) to be a contestant in the Choctaw Nation Royalty Pageant and attend the interview held before the final level of competition. This year’s pageant will be held (date to be announced) on the Choctaw Nation Tribal Grounds in Tvshka Homma, Oklahoma. The Royalty Pageant interview date and location will be announced after June 15, 2024.
  • If district winners cannot fulfill their duties as district princess for any reason during their reign, the title, crown, and duties will pass to the first runner-up in that district.
  • If a member of Choctaw Nation Royalty cannot fulfill her duties for any reason during her reign, the title, crown, and duties will pass to the first runner-up.
  • It is acceptable for Choctaw Nation Royalty Pageant winners to hold other titles (example: Miss Owa Chito Festival, Miss Native American Student Association, etc.); however, they must not interfere in fulfilling the duties of being official Choctaw Nation Royalty.
  • If at any time during her reign a Choctaw Nation District Princess or member of Choctaw Nation Royalty violates any of the guidelines, qualification, stipulations, or Code of Conduct associated with being eligible for the role of princess, they will forfeit their crown, title, and duties to the first runner-up.
